Symptoms
There is probably no human
being on the face of the earth other than a new born infant who has not
suffered some form of sinusitis. We all know it best by any of the symptoms
it produces, either singly or in complex combinations. They include:
- Thick colored post nasal
drainage or dripping
- Nasal discharge
- Congested nasal passages
- Sneezing
- Alteration or loss of sense
of smell
- Headache
- Facial pain
- Facial pressure
- Fever
- Fatigue
- Hoarsness (Pharyngitis)
- Halitosis
- Cough
- Irritability
- Clicking in ears
- Stuffiness or blockage felt
in ears
Sinusitis can be brought on
by any number of causal factors:
- Congenital conditions such
as cystic fibrosis, syndromic disorders
- Allergic conditions
- Immune system conditions
- Anatomic abnormalities
- Systemic diseases
- Malfunctining neuro system
- Growths in the form of benign
or malignant tumors
Environmental factors also
enter the realm of causes of Sinusitis. Such as:
- Viral, bacterial or fungal
infections
- Trauma to the area
- Chemical agents
- Medications
- Surgical procedures
